PEBBLE BEACH — Rory McIlroy has confirmed that Tiger Woods has not made a bogey in more than 87 consecutive rounds, a claim that has sent golf statisticians searching for both a calculator and an adult.

“Tiger. I am talking about Tiger,” McIlroy told reporters, underlining the name on a scorecard after the third question about his own form. “More than 87 straight rounds. Not one bogey. All at Pebble.”

The streak allegedly includes a 51, several scores that looked like highway speed limits and a round completed before the beverage cart left the clubhouse.

Asked which tees Woods had used, McIlroy stared into the middle distance. “I’m not getting into that.”

Course observers described an ambitious relationship with the forward junior tees and several holes that began on the cart path. Woods’s team called the arrangements “Augusta-specific preparation.”

McIlroy dismissed suggestions that the streak required an asterisk. “Put whatever you want next to it. He’ll probably birdie that too.”
