Wraparound sunglasses. A 2-iron. A VHS tape. Double D says the comeback goes through him.

PONTE VEDRA BEACH — David Duval interrupted Tiger Woods’s comeback announcement by consuming Irish beer through a funnel and declaring that professional golf had unfinished business with Double D.

“Everybody wants to talk about Tiger,” Duval said. “Nobody wants to talk about Double D.”

His equipment included wraparound sunglasses last seen during the Clinton administration, a 2-iron and a VHS copy of the 2001 Open Championship. An assistant was sent to three electronics stores looking for somewhere to play it.

Duval said he had been quietly training on Golden Tee at Buffalo Wild Wings, where he recently attacked a difficult pin position while sharing mozzarella sticks.

“You can’t teach that kind of pressure,” he said.

Asked whether the Guinness was part of his performance plan, Duval said hydration had changed considerably since the last time anybody asked him about it.

Tiger continued hitting balls. Duval interpreted the silence as fear.
