AUSTIN — Steve Sarkisian has returned from an offseason transformation looking so refreshed that Texas staff initially welcomed him as a distinguished donor before realizing he was calling the plays.

“Unrecognizable,” one assistant said, pausing long enough to alarm everyone. “In a good way. Definitely in a good way. Please put that part in the headline.”

The change has sparked speculation about plastic surgery, luxury skincare and a lighting arrangement unavailable to the general public. Texas has declined to identify a procedure, saying only that the coach is “day-to-day with excellent cheekbones.”

A before-and-after review found that the earlier Sark looked like a football coach answering questions about a football team. The later Sark looked like somebody who had acquired the football team and wanted to discuss a new fragrance partnership.

Staff members insist his voice, playbook and insistence on eight-dimensional chess remain unchanged. The only operational problem is that facial recognition at the practice facility has begun asking him to create a new account.

One security guard reportedly waved him toward the visitors’ entrance. Sark explained that he was the head coach. The guard said that sounded exactly like something a very handsome visitor would say.

A school spokesman attributed the improvement to sleep, hydration and “a favorable camera angle extending around the entire person.” Asked whether that ruled out cosmetic work, he said the university does not comment on proprietary facial adjustments.

Players have reacted positively. Several said the new look projects confidence. One said it projects a streaming-service executive, but agreed that both are useful in recruiting.

Sark has rejected suggestions that the glow-up is related to his Vegas trip. “These are separate storylines,” he said. “Connecting them is only possible if you understand the seventh dimension.”

At press time, Oklahoma had requested proof that the newly polished coach was the same Sarkisian named in its scouting report. Texas offered an autograph and a moisturizer sample.
