HOUSTON — Mattress Mack has tripled down on Arch Manning, announcing a wager so heavily exposed to the Texas quarterback that the showroom’s inventory system now refreshes after every offensive snap.

“I have 14,000 mattresses riding on this kid,” Mack said. “Some people talk about having skin in the game. I have lumbar support.”

He declined to disclose a dollar figure, saying only that the showroom was “looking pretty empty” and that several display beds had been asked to remain ready.

Third and financially significant

The latest promotion promises a free bed to every Texas resident if Manning completes a third-down pass. Staff initially assumed the offer required Texas to win the championship. Mack told them not to get bogged down in fine print.

An accountant calculated the possible liability, removed his glasses and asked whether “resident” included people who were asleep when the promotion aired.

Mack said those were the customers he most wanted to reach.

The company has converted its standard firmness scale into a live win-probability display. Plush means optimism. Extra firm means third-and-eight. A mattress standing upright against the office door means nobody is to disturb the finance team.

The old balance does not disappear

Switzer reportedly called to remind Mack that any winnings remained subject to an older West End poker obligation. The Boz requested that no payment arrive in adjustable-base credit.

“Everybody wants a piece,” Mack said. “I’m trying to support a young quarterback and twenty-seven thousand box springs.”

Arch has reportedly been sent a handwritten note urging him to stay composed, trust his reads and remember that a whole warehouse believes in him.

At press time, Texas faced third-and-two. Mack had asked the broadcast crew to stop calling it a manageable situation.
