DALLAS — Major Applewhite interrupted an already complicated limousine standoff Friday to strike the Heisman pose outside the Adolphus, instructing the valet to photograph him from an angle that conveyed both balance and historical injustice.

“This is just a picture,” he said, handing over a football, a reflector and a list of preferred sportswriters.

The pose held for eleven minutes. Witnesses initially believed he was directing traffic.

It is never too late for a campaign

Applewhite reportedly asked whether a trophy could be awarded retroactively if enough people agreed that the vibes had always been right.

An organizer explained that this was a hotel arrival, not a Heisman ceremony. Applewhite responded that most campaigns have to begin somewhere.

Chris Simms watched from a nearby limousine. Mack Brown declined to identify which photograph would lead the album, saying both men had earned meaningful snaps.

The valet was instructed to remove a parking sign from the background because it read RESERVED and brought up too many unrelated issues.

The stiff-arm survives

Applewhite said his balance remains excellent and offered to demonstrate on a decorative planter. Management asked him to remain at ground level because the hotel already had enough problems with objects changing floors.

Mattress Mack offered a promotional mattress if the picture won anything. The Boz asked whether the pose was a legally binding refusal to pay for parking.

At press time, Applewhite was reviewing 84 nearly identical photographs. He rejected the sharpest one because Simms could be seen sitting in the front seat.
