DALLAS — Brian Bosworth assumed control of hotel operations for Barry Switzer’s Dallas ’85 revival Friday, immediately reorganizing the property into offense, defense and appliances with remaining eligibility.

His first requisition called for 30 vintage televisions, six sofas and three refrigerators. Asked what the appliances were for, the Boz said, “Atmosphere.”

The hotel’s existing operations director explained that atmosphere usually involved lighting. Bosworth said that could be arranged if management supplied a longer extension cord.

A depth chart for televisions

The Boz has separated the inventory into heavyweight CRTs, spread-formation flat screens and one emergency lobby monitor that will remain available until all other options have been exhausted.

“The old sets have experience,” he said. “The new ones have length. I’m not naming a starter until we see how they handle the hallway.”

A 65-inch smart television attempted to connect to the hotel network. Bosworth placed it on probation for communicating with the outside world.

Housekeeping has been instructed to replace the usual DO NOT DISTURB cards with WE ALREADY DID. The concierge’s desk now issues wristbands, ice buckets and a diagram showing which elevators can accommodate a sectional.

Guest relations has closing speed

Demond Parker will oversee guests carrying unresolved historical balances. Bosworth insists this is a hospitality function.

“He greets them. He escorts them. He remembers exactly what they promised in 1998.”

Switzer praised the appointment, saying the Boz understands that a great hotel weekend begins with preparation and ends with somebody asking where the television went.

At press time, Bosworth had rejected management’s checkout checklist and replaced it with a depth chart. The minibar was listed as doubtful.
