Several sportsbooks suspended a novelty market on whether Jannik Sinner would finish the season with both kneecaps after an unusual volume of wagers arrived from an account named DefinitelyNotCarlos03.

The market had opened at overwhelming “Yes” odds before moving sharply following reports that someone purchased three baseball bats and declined the store’s complimentary baseball.

“That’s the kind of detail our integrity department flags,” said one bookmaker. “Most customers at least pretend.”

Settling the market has presented additional difficulties.

Under the original terms, “with both kneecaps” did not explicitly require the kneecaps to remain attached, prompting an emergency conference call involving traders, attorneys, and an orthopedic surgeon who repeatedly asked why he was there.

A separate market on whether Sinner would win his next tournament remained largely unchanged.

“He could show up in a medieval suit of armor and we’d still make him the favorite,” said a trader. “The man’s return numbers are ridiculous.”

Sportsbooks have since replaced the suspended market with a less controversial proposition: whether the ATP will finish its investigation before Sinner retires.

“No” is currently favored.
